WOMBWELL Main won 4-3 at home to then County Senior Premier Division leaders Dodworth MW.

The derby featured three penalties, a red card and a 60-yard free-kick while Atley Jackson scored a hat-trick against his old club in a losing cause.

Kieron Bradley’s free-kick from his own half put Wombwell in front but they went 2-1 down and Ben Priestley made a penalty save from Jackson to stop it becoming 3-1.

Main then came back to 2-2 – with a penalty which saw Dodworth’s Ethan Kenny sent off for handball on the line – and, after going 3-2 down, recovered again to win 4-3.

Ryan Wingrove scored two penalties including the winner and Kieran Hirst also found the net.

Main manager Terry Simon said: “I enjoyed it.

“It was a proper old school match.

“We woke up in the morning and lads were asking if it was going to be off because of the forecast of storms.

“It was blowing a gale but the pitch was class and what a great game.

“Atley won’t like me saying this but there were three deflections so we scored all seven goals.

“That is probably the game I’ve enjoyed the most. That’s why we do it.

“Dodworth were top of the league and their tails were up, but we deserved it.”

There has since been further bad news for Dodworth who have been deducted three points for allegedly fielding an ineligible player in a match earlier in the season.
