A SHORT film aims to save lives through a simple message.
Mick Rowe, a Barnsley-based suicide prevention campaigner and founder of Suicide Sucks CIC has launched a campaign.
The campaign aims to produce a short film with a life-saving message: a text message could save a life.
Mick founded Suicide Sucks CIC after losing her brother, James, to suicide in 1996.
She has since dedicated her life to tackling stigma around mental health and creating practical resources to help those in need.
‘The 8 Minutes Mate’ film intends to dramatise the idea of a powerful message: “Have you got eight minutes?” which is code for a person struggling with mental health problems, seeking help.
Unlike everyday messages that can easily fly under the radar, this message will be one that can’t be misinterpreted.
The film will be produced locally, in South Yorkshire, then rolled out to festivals, community screenings and workshops.
Screenings willl include practical resources, ensuring the film’s message resonates beyond its first watch.
Donations will fund the film’s production and support the creation of resources and workshops to spread its message into the community.
Supporters can have a lasting impact on the film, with the potential to have their name in the credits or receiving merchandise.
Mick said: “Eight minutes on the phone with a friend might stretch to an hour.
“But that first connection changes everything, it can carry someone through the darkest night until morning.
“I want everyone to have an eight minutes’ mate and to know how to be one.”
