RESIDENTS in Higham were left scratching their heads after new bus stop signage went up - but the village’s name was spelt wrong.

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) are responsible for the signage which has confused locals.

The bus stop on Higham Common Road says the village is actually called ‘Highham’ - but after Coun Chris Wray and the Chronicle contacted them, the mistake was changed.

Coun Wray told the Chronicle: “With developments like MU1 threatening to strip away the identity of our villages, the bus stop saying ‘Highham Common Road’ was already doing so.

“Still, I’m pleased that the sign on the Higham bus stop has been sorted, so no identity crisis now.”

A spokesperson for SYMCA added: “We’re grateful to those who brought this to our attention.

“We identified an error in our system which led to the incorrect name being displayed at the bus stop.

“This has now been updated to ‘Higham Common Road’, and we’ve arranged for our contractor to amend the signage as soon as possible.
