A UNIQUE blend of history and music has been celebrated.
A group of locals gathered at Elsecar Station to mark an important anniversary.
‘Singing the story of Elsecar’ has celebrated the 200th birthday of the railways and the heritage of the local area.
The event explored Elsecar’s rich industrial past through storytelling and song, bringing local history to life.
The group was led by Dr Tegwen Roberts, a local Heritage Manager, archaeologist and folk singer.
They visited landmarks such as the Newcomen Engine and Victorian Canal Basin.
On their journey, the group sang traditional songs like ‘Tower of Steam’ and ‘Six Jolly Miners’.
Cathrine Ashworth, community rail officer at SYMCA, praised the positives of rail travel.
She said: “Rail travel makes it easy to discover the incredible places and stories that surround us.
“Elsecar is a brilliant example of how accessible, sustainable transport can connect people to heritage, nature and each other.
