TWO Darfield councillors joined forces with the South Area Council this week to clean up the local war memorial.

Based on Church Street, the work forms part of Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live programme, which delivers environmental improvements across the borough.

The team, including Barnsley Council’s south area environment manager Andrea Walker, community volunteers Colin Ward and Denise Lumley and council employees, spent the morning clearing leaves, tidying paths, and ensuring the site remains safe and dignified for visitors.

The clean-up was warmly received by residents, many of whom stopped to thank the team for their efforts.

Couns Kevin Osborne and Pauline Markham were on hand to support the effort.

Coun Osborne said: “This memorial is a place of deep meaning for our community.

“It was an honour to work alongside Pauline, community volunteers, and the south area caretaker team to ensure it’s looking its best ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

“Every leaf cleared and path scraped is a tribute to those who served and a reflection of the pride we take, not only in Darfield but across our town.”

Coun Markham added: “Today’s work is a perfect example of what happens when councillors, community volunteers and council teams work together with purpose and pride.”
