BARNSLEY Tennis Club’s potential for creating the county stars of the future has been recognised.

The club has been announced as one of the aspiring Yorkshire player development centres.

The accreditation is awarded to the clubs who are making strides to having a comprehensive programme which produces a wide base of junior players who aspire to or are on the pathway to competing at county level.

Yorkshire Tennis launched the player development centre initiative this year with the aim of helping players achieve their full potential and produce future county players, champions and for the more talented players to progress to the regional player development centre (RPDC).

As part of the criteria the centres are required to increase participation, implementing community outreach and school links, support inclusivity, develop coaches, deliver quality coaching programmes, support county training and organise competitions.

The coaching programme is run by head coach, Alice Robson.

She has already made changes to the programme this September to offer more sessions for more advanced players.
