CALLUM Simpson’s latest fight has been confirmed as a title clash with fellow Englishman Troy Williamson in Leeds on December 20.
The 29-year-old super-middleweight from Barnsley has won all 18 professional fights, with the most recent at Oakwell in June when he recovered from two early knockdowns to stop Ivan Zucco in the tenth round and win the European title.
He is set to defend that belt plus his British and Commonwealth titles against Williamson at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.
The fight is also due to be broadcast live on BBC Three and the iPlayer.
Williamson, 34, is from Darlington and has a record of 21 wins, four losses and a draw.
He has lost four of his last six across the last three years but won his most recent fight in September to take the English title.
Simpson said: “Leeds is going to be bouncing with the Barnsley Army on December 20.
“Troy’s a tough fighter but this is my time and I’m ready to prove again why I’m one of the most exciting boxers in Britain right now.
“To headline live on the BBC is massive and we’re putting Yorkshire boxing back on the map at the same time.”
Williamson said: “Callum’s had a great run but he’s never faced anyone like me.
“I’m gonna ruin his Christmas.
“I’ve been in big fights, I’ve been the champion, and I know what it takes.
“This is my opportunity to show that I’m number one and to take the belts home with me.”
Tickets go on pre-sale on Thursday to Barnsley FC fans then general sale on Monday.
