PLANS to remove waiting restrictions in Goldthorpe have now gone to public consultation.

Parking is currently restricted at various locations on Market Street and Market Square.

The restrictions were introduced several years ago to control parking in the vicinity of Goldthorpe Market which was located on Market Street.

But after a housing development in the area was recently completed, the council are proposing to remove the restrictions.

A report said: “In September 2021, planning permission was granted for a new housing development at the former Goldthorpe Market.

“The construction of the housing development is now completed, and it is determined that the restrictions on Market Street and Market Square are no longer needed or deemed appropriate.

“It is therefore proposed to revoke parts of the existing ‘no waiting at any time’ restrictions on Market Street, a full length of the existing ‘no waiting Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm’ restriction and a full length of ‘no loading or unloading 10am to 4.30pm along Market Street and Market Square.

“A new length of ‘no waiting at any time’ restrictions will be introduced at the junction of Market Street and Doncaster Road.

“The revocation of the restrictions will return the roads to their unrestricted state and increasing the availability of on-street parking for residents and visitors.”

Residents can have their say on the plans until November 21.
