BARNSLEY MP Stephanie Peacock - who is also the Minister for Sport - has been working to formulate a bid for the country to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in a decade’s time.

If the bid is successful, the event would be set to bring significant socio-economic and community benefits to England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Ms Peacock recently joined former England player and football pundit Karen Carney in between her rehearsals for BBC show Strictly Come Dancing to discuss what this would mean to women and girls across the UK.

Stephanie said: “I have been proud to work to bring together the UK’s bid for the 2035 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“The benefits of this competition would be significant, benefitting communities across the UK, and securing our reputation as a host of major events.

“Thank you to everyone who has worked hard to ensure that this bid could be submitted to FIFA and to Karen for speaking to me about how important this would be for women and girls across the UK amidst her busy schedule.”
