A PAIR of Barnsley College students have been named as runners-up in their categories at this year’s Association of Colleges Student of the Year Awards.

Presley Beckham was named runner up for Higher Education Student of the Year, sponsored by QAA.

He is current studying for a foundation degree and despite facing personal challenges, he has become a source of inspiration for his peers.

Presley is passionate about becoming a zookeeper and has a particular interest in exotic species.

Harry Clayton was awarded runner-up for Apprentice of the Year, sponsored by the Association of Colleges.

He works at E and S Swift in Barnsley and recently completed his level three apprenticeship with the college.

David Akeroyd, college principal and CEO, said: “Harry and Presley have achieved something remarkable and the entire college is incredibly proud of them.

“To receive two awards across just five categories, that are open to students nationally, is no small feat.

“Their success embodies the ambition we encourage in all our students, and it is very inspiring to see them recognised at this level.”
