Hollie Jane Woodhouse, 15, of New Street, attends the Betty Chappelle School of Dance in Penistone.

 

She has been nominated by her mum, Jane Woodhouse, for the Young Superstar category and she has praised her daughter for her 'tireless commitment, talent, enthusiasm and positive attitude'.Hollie is a pupil at the Foulstone School of Creative Arts where she is a school council representative and pupil mentor.

 

She studies dance and musical theatre and mum Jane said for the last three years she has been a senior associate at the Northern Ballet in Leeds, and is now an associate scholar at Renaissance Arts College, Leeds. Hollie trains between 16-20 hours a week studying ballet, modern contemporary, jazz, tap, musical theatre, drama and piano.

 

"She has performed in many festivals and local theatre productions, including performances at the Lamproom Theatre in Barnsley, Northern Ballet productions and academic and dance school productions," said Jane.

"Her achievements and accolades are many and include several successes in modern dance and ballet championships and scholarship awards from the International Dance Teachers Association and the Theatre Dance Council International."

 

In 2010 Hollie was awarded Barnsley Council's outstanding achievers award for performing arts in recognition of her achievement, talent and commitment along with several bursary awards from the council's 'Gifted and Talented' scheme. In the same year she won both the IDTA and TDCI scholarships for modern dance and won a scholarship to attend the Hammond Summer School in Chester. She was also a finalist in the British Theatre Dance Championships in ballet and modern jazz.

Last year Hollie was nominated for Le Classique de Dance award which her mum said is like the 'Oscars' of the dancing profession

."So far this year she has again won the IDTA scholarship award for modern dance which has enabled her to further her training at the Doreen Bird Theatre Summer School in London.

 

"Furthermore, she has again been nominated to represent the IDTA at the TDCI scholarship awards later in the year at Blackpool.

 

"However, her most prestigious achievement is that she was selected to carry the Olympic Torch as part of the relay and was very proud and honoured.

 

"Hollie also enjoys athletics, particularly track and field, and has won the South Yorkshire school's 200-metre girl's event and is a member of the school basket ball team."

 

She is an inspiration and example to us all and well deserves to be nominated for the Proud of Barnsley Awards," said Jane.
