MORE than £15,000 has been handed over by a local business to help support the Mayor of Barnsley’s two charities.
A charity golf day held on September 12 raised £7,640.78 and The Wates Family Enterprise Trust then matched the amount, bringing the total to £15,281.56.
The money has been split equally between Help4Homeless Veterans and Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SoBS) Barnsley.
Help4Homeless Veterans helps former servicemen and women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
They offer practical support, advice, and help to find safe accommodation.
SoBS Barnsley is a local peer-to-peer support group that provides compassionate, confidential help to people who have lost someone to suicide, giving them a safe space to talk and be heard.
Representatives from WPS joined the mayor and the charities at Barnsley Town Hall for a thank you event to mark the success of the fundraising.
Mayor of Barnsley Coun Dave Leech said: “I’d like to give a big thank you to everyone at WPS and the Wates Family Enterprise Trust for your amazing support.
“Your generosity will help these charities continue their vital work in our community.
“This is a fantastic example of community spirit in action.”
