A MONK Bretton cannabis farmer has been ordered to pay back the money he made from crime.
In April, Maciej Chmura was handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, for the role he played in the production of cannabis at an address in the Monk Bretton area of Barnsley.
Officers executed a warrant at the property in July 2023 and found a cannabis grow and dozens of zip lock bags of cropped cannabis.
Whilst the property was being searched, Chmura, of Burton Bank Road, attended the address and asked what officers were doing there.
After identifying himself as living within the house, officers arrested the 35-year-old and subsequently charged him with possession with intent to supply and production of a controlled class B drug.
Chmura was found to have a financial benefit of £35,000 and on November 7 was handed a confiscation order under the Proceeds of Crime Act - forcing him to pay this amount back within three months.
Head of asset recovery Laura Hough said: “It is important that criminals who are convicted are not allowed to continue to benefit from their lives of crime.”
