BARNSLEY slipped to a third straight League One defeat at Oakwell as Lincoln City left with all three points after a 2-0 win.

Adam Reach's fantastic volley added to Tom Hamer's early opener to give the Imps the victory.

Conor Hourihane made one change to the starting 11 that let a two goal lead slip against Mansfield at Oakwell on Boxing Day.

Tennai Watson returned from the off and replaced Caylan Vickers, while Jon Russell dropped out of the squad completely and was replaced by Fabio Jalo on the bench.

Barnsley started the game poorly, making a number of sloppy mistakes.

A series of poor errors, starting with Jonathan Bland giving the ball away needlessly and Reyes Cleary committing a foul, led to the opener.

Adam Reach faked to shoot from the free kick from the right before Ivan Varfolomeev crossed for Tom Hamer to head home for the Imps.

Barnsley grew into the game after the goal but struggled to make any clear-cut chances until Patrick Kelly was played through by Luca Connell just before the half-hour mark.

His strike was blocked but a Lincoln defender looked to handle the ball before it was cleared, but referee Paul Howard waved away the claims.

Lincoln then got back into the game and threatened to double their lead but it was Barnsley who came the closest to the next goal after Cleary worked his way inside but could only see his effort blocked away for a corner.

Adam Reach came close in the 43rd minute after he was found following some good play by Justin Obikwu.

But the former Sheffield Wednesday man's 20-yard strike was deflected narrowly wide.

The Reds were booed off by the Oakwell faithful at half-time but started the second half brightly.

Connell played a wonderful cross-field ball to Cleary who, as he does, cut inside but could only fire straight at then 'keeper.

The Reds thought they'd levelled through substitute Adam Phillips in the 49th minute after his touch fooled defenders and he unleashed a wicked strike but it could only find the side netting.

Josh Earl then came close from a header from a Connell free-kick but he could only watch as it dropped narrowly wide.

Keillor-Dunn should have made it 1-1 on the hour mark but he could only direct his header straight at the Lincoln 'keeper from six yards out..

But Reach sealed the win for the Imps in the 72nd minute as his thunderous volley from the edge of the area cannoned in off the crossbar.

The result leaves the Reds just three points above the relegation zone.
