A SHOP owner in Thurgoland has been praised by a councillor for doing his bit for local elderly people.
Many who live on the Churchfields estate have been unable to get out for supplies following the recent cold weather which subsequently turned to ice and snow this week as temperatures plummeted.
Mohammed Khan, who runs Thurgoland General Stores, was concerned about his customers’ welfare and decided to make up free food parcels for those who were reluctant to leave their homes due to the treacherous under-foot conditions.
Couns Alex Burnett and John Roberts both visited Mohammed to praise him.
Coun Burnett said: “As the temperatures drop colder, Mr Khan from the corner shop in Thurgoland has once more done food parcels of fruit and veg for vulnerable residents.
“Myself and John delivered these for him today to grateful residents on the bungalows on Churchfields in Thurgoland.
“Thank you to Mr Khan, who is a fantastic community champion for Thurgoland.”
