NEW prevention measures aimed at halting criminals following a spate of burglaries in the area have been implemented.
Barnsley Council have worked with South Yorkshire Police following a meeting with rWorsbrough esidents.
Police patrols have increased significantly and a street light security camera that will provide continuous surveillance has been strategically installed which will act as a further deterrent.
Coun Roy Bowser, who represents the Worsbrough ward, says the residents who are being targeted appear to be elderly or vulnerable.
He added: “Those who perpetrate these crimes are vile, cruel and cowardly people, preying on the most vulnerable.
“Wearing masks and carrying weapons, they smash their way into properties causing untold damage and destruction, creating mayhem and fear in the minds of victims who may never properly recover from such morally corrupt actions.
“A multi-agency approach including the police, the council and a well organised community group who have all reinforced residential security will do everything in their power to protect people and to ensure offenders are brought to justice.”
