BARNSLEY Council has been named one of the top ten most productive local authorities in the country.
The seventh-placed ranking - announced in The MJ’s ‘IMPOWER Index’ - came as a result of the study looking at how well councils use every pound they spend.
Sir Steve Houghton, leader of Barnsley Council, said: “This highlights Barnsley’s long-standing record of doing things well and sits alongside other successes.
“It reflects many years of hard work, strong planning and a commitment to getting the best outcomes for local people.
“I’m incredibly proud that Barnsley Council has been recognised as one of the top ten most productive councils in England, the only top ten authority in South Yorkshire.
“While there is always more to do, this recognition shows our strong progress and the solid foundations we’ve built for Barnsley’s future.”
