Barnsley’s game at Stevenage has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

The referee Kirsty Dowle called if off about 6.30pm due to the condition of the pitch in one of the penalty areas.

Conor Hourihane told the Chronicle: “Obviously the pitch isn't great, the ball wasn't bouncing a lot there was patches that were quite wet and it was supposed to keep raining in some way shape or form till about nine o'clock.

“It would have been nice to get a little bit of an earlier heads up but I don't think the referee got here in time or as early as what we would like potentially to give us an early heads up on it. But look, it is what it is. So we all know we've got a busy schedule, so it might give us a breather.

“It’s very frustrating for the fans that bought tickets to travel down. I would hope, obviously, that their tickets will be okay for the next game whenever it's rearranged for. Credit to them for coming down here on a Tuesday night.

“I hope obviously they have a safe journey back.”

This game will likely be rescheduled in one of the final two midweeks of the season.

“We’re going to have to make it up in some way, shape or form. We're in an intense moment with games so we'll try and get this game probably kicked down the road as far away as we can because look we know off the back of the next couple of games up until international break we've got Saturday to Tuesday the whole way through.”
