MY very much alive friend got a letter last week asking for details about her estate following her death. ‘The corpse’ rang up to question this. The woman on the other end of the line was most apologetic because, as my friend said loosely quoting Mark Twain, that accounts of her death were grossly exaggerated.

That really shouldn’t have happened. Death is a sensitive issue and people should be checking their facts but they don’t because I’m not sure anyone cares enough about anything any more.

I remember getting ‘an apology’ from the hospital for the death of my grandmother instead of my mother and I’m afraid that my response was in bold block capitals.

Yes I know that cuts in the tax office have led to staff pressure – not our problem. Which idiots cut the staff in a governmental department that is always busy but then that makes as much sense as anything these days. (See also post office staff cuts. What a joke!)

I have my own gripes with the tax office seeing as two years later my accountant is still trying to claim back the interest on a payment they made me cough up when I didn’t owe it to them in the first place.

Two years. Be a day late with your tax and they slap a penalty on you.

Have money owed to you from them and you can whistle for any interest because it only works one way and there is nothing you can do about it.

I have been told it will be sorted this month. I’m not holding my breath. I need it for the expletives.

Don’t know what to buy your mum for Mother’s Day? Buy her a vibrating plate. Just let me clarify, it’s something you stand on and it shakes all the way up to your chins.

The health benefits are numerous, not the least that it aids balance and if you are age-proofing yourself, this is important.

I have a pal that stands on one leg while she is waiting for the kettle to boil but it’s important you improve your balance.

I can’t believe I’m actually talking ‘age-proof’ at this young sprightly age, but it comes to us all… if we’re lucky.

It’s just a mere step now to poring over those catalogues that come with the Sunday newspapers and eyeing up the crimplene trousers with the elasticated waist thinking ‘ooh they look comfy’.

Is it just me that cannot understand the trend of vaping? Maybe it’s because I’ve had a couple of chesty asthmatic turns and the thought of taking in anything that might interfere with my breathing leaves me scratching my head in horror.

Everyone’s at it. Even people who don’t smoke. Walk past them in town and be forced to inhale their exhaled scenty trifle stink.

The Chron last week carried at least two stories about vape shops getting fined. Is there really that much business for them that we have so many of them – they are everywhere aren’t they so there must be some brass in the business but I really don’t get it.

Just a couple of tickets left (at time of writing) for Jack Land Noble and my Valentine’s Day Massacre/Mascara evening at the Lamproom tomorrow night full of love, lyrics and laughter. Starts 7.30pm.
