A RENOWNED photographer has been crowned the winner of a prestigious competition.
For Robert Carter, a wedding photographer, his profession is more than just a job, it’s a calling.
Understanding that most people are a bit camera-shy, Robert prides himself on turning nervous clients into naturals.
In his own words, Robert is far from an ‘ordinary’ wedding photographer - and his passion for capturing couples’ special days clearly shines through his work.
Robert was recently announced as the Wedding Photographer of the Year, for the second year running, by the Guild of Photographers.
To be in with a chance of winning the accolade, Robert had to submit three photographs a month to the guild - which are subsequently graded, with hopefuls accruing points over the year.
The award-winning photographer expertly plays with colour grading, light and inventive angles to preserve treasured moments for a lifetime.
Unfortunately, Robert was unable to claim his spotlight at the awards ceremony, having already committed to capture a ceremony.
His vocation runs in the family, with Robert getting the photography bug from his dad, David, who was also a photographer.
Robert said: “I’ve been doing photography for about 20 years.
“I started because of my dad, who was also a photographer and I did a bit at college, but I’m mainly self-taught.
“I’ve started doing wedding photography full-time in the last five years and I enjoy what I do.
“Last year I wasn’t expecting the award at all, it was a real surprise.
“This year, I kind of knew it was in the works, but I’m still really proud.
“It’s a nice feeling to be recognised.”
