A PHOTOGRAPHY festival’s organisers are hoping to bring a vibrant exhibition to Barnsley.
FOTO 2026 will present a wide-reaching programme that works closely with the event’s partners - Barnsley Council, Barnsley Civic and Photoworks.
The community-led photography initiative brings together photographers and visual artists around shared projects, events and exhibitions - with a goal to build and support a local photography community,
Across the town and within Barnsley Markets, audiences will find works by selected artists Lasma Poisa and Paul Crawley.
The artists enjoy using photography as a tool to document and explore the relationship people have to home, heritage and change.
There is also set to be work from emerging artists from Leeds Arts University.
Throughout Barnsley Civic, this year’s event offers a group exhibition from the collective behind the festival.
Kick-starting the activities will be Barnsley Zine Fair, on the February 28, followed by artist-led photography workshops - alongside a ‘women in photography’ panel talk and much more.
Festival director, Emily Ryalls, said: “We couldn’t be more excited to be celebrating photography in Barnsley on this scale.
“It’s been an ambitious debut and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of our funders and festival partners - Arts Council England, Barnsley Council, Barnsley Civic and Photoworks.
“This is the first of many more years and we’re so grateful for all the shared joy and excitement across the town as we prepare to launch.”
