A MAN who stabbed another man in the neck in Hoyland has been jailed for 23 years.
On March 14 last year, officers were called to Market Street after a man had suffered a serious stab wound.
An investigation was launched and officers quickly identified CCTV cameras which had recorded the incident.
The footage showed the victim and Lewis Parker getting into an altercation.
The 22-year-old was then seen to pull a knife from his waistband before slashing the victim’s neck.
Parker fled the scene but the CCTV evidence, combined with witness accounts, led to him being identified, arrested and charged with attempted murder and other offences.
On November 3, Parker, of Keppel Road, Sheffield, was found guilty of attempted murder following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court.
He had previously pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, and possession of Class B and C drugs.
Last Thursday he was sentenced at the same court and jailed for 23 years, with an extended licence period of three years.
Detective Constable Angela Bowen said: “Parker inflicted serious harm on his victim before callously fleeing the scene.
“The damage Parker caused was so severe that doctors have said the victim was lucky to be alive following the violent attack.
“This incident is another reminder of the damage carrying a knife can cause.
“We remain committed to rooting out knife crime, removing these dangerous weapons from our streets and keeping our county a safe place to live, work and visit for everyone.”
