A MONK Bretton youngster who represented England in a beauty pageant in America last year has had a busy schedule supporting local causes.
Scarlett Maskill, 12, placed first runner-up in the UK pre-teen division at International Junior Miss UK and subsequently travelled to Orlando in December to represent her country and compete against girls from across the world.
Her next competition is set to take place next month when she’ll be hoping to take home to pre-teen crown and fly out to the states again.
Her mum, Chantelle, said she had such a good time in December that she’s working incredibly hard to do it again.
And over the past few weeks her fundraising exploits have certainly ramped up.
Chantelle said: “She’s just climbed Snowdon to raise money for Action for Barnsley Homeless and raised a massive £1,500.
“For the past six months she’s helped collect bags of clothing for the clothing bank.
“She has collected Easter eggs for Barnsley Hospital Charity ready to drop off at the end of March.
“She felt so rewarded when dropping advent calendars to them in November she couldn’t wait to help again.
“For World Book Day she collected 52 books to donate to a primary school locally.
“She believes every child should read once a week at least.
“Scarlett is currently making homeless packages as we see these people daily and a little package with essentials in my car is ideal, so she can hand them out.
“She is holding a special event at the end of March to celebrate Easter with the children of Barnsley, both boys and girls to come along and have some fun free of charge.
“To bring children you can email chantmask@icloud.com.
“She’s been a very busy and dedicated young girl and we as a family are very proud of her.”
