A YOUNG Barnsley girl donated 13 inches of her own hair to the Little Princess Trust at the weekend - and she’s hoping to raise enough money to purchase a wig for someone diagnosed with cancer.

Elsie Green, five, from Redbrook, decided that she wanted to cut her hair for the charity because her late grandmother, Gill, wore a wig after she was diagnosed with cancer.

The Little Princess Trust provides free real hair wigs to children and young people, up to 24 years, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Elsie’s already raised more than £500 and her hair will be donated to be turned into a wig for a youngster in need - and an additional £200 in fundraising money will be enough to buy another wig.

Her mum, Amanda, told the Chronicle: “She’s very caring and thoughtful.

“She’s just a typical five-year-old - she’s a bit noisy and outgoing but she’s really interested in everything.

“She’s a loving girl and I think she’s amazing.”

Her hair was cut at Totty’s in Goldthorpe on Saturday and Amanda said she’s been waiting for the day for quite some time.

She added: “She’s had 13 inches of her hair cut off so it’s quite short at the minute.

“She decided that she wanted to do something because her grandmother wore a wig.

“She was always asking if it was long enough to be cut and it finally was.

“She’s really been pushing for it.

“I set up the fundraiser and initially put it at £250 and we thought it would be unachievable.

“But she’s absolutely smashed the target and has raised £520.

“We’re hoping to reach £700 so a wig can be bought for the Little Princess Trust.”
