UPDATE: Nominations close on Sunday April 26 at 6pm.

OUR search to find the inspirational young people of Barnsley is now well and truly underway.

The Chronicle has teamed up with Barnsley College and other local businesses and organisations to run the Young Champions awards which have gone from strength-to-strength since we relaunched them two years ago.

Last year’s search culminated in a glitzy presentation night in the Metrodome Arena which drew a crowd of almost 600 people.

And this year’s presentation night will once again return to the Metrodome on Friday, June 12 where our winners will be revealed.

So if you know a young person who really deserves some credit for all their hard work, now is the time to put them forward.

At the Chronicle, we are hoping to help champion Barnsley’s next generation, celebrating the brilliant work done daily by people in the middle of exam revision or battling through university applications.

Nominations for the Young Champions awards, where we celebrate the great achievements made by young people, are now open.

Nominees will be featured in the paper, before our panel of judges pull together a shortlist.

A combination of judges’ votes and a public vote will then be used to decide the final winners.

We will also be handing out the Outstanding Young Champion award on the night for one youngster whose achievements have wowed judges and earned them some additional, special recognition.

Chronicle editor, Andrew Harrod, said: “It has been wonderful to see the way our Young Champions Awards have established themselves in the last couple of years.

“We’ve highlighted the achievements of some real young role models and I’m sure this year will be no exception. It has also been very gratifying to see previous Young Champions nominees go on to earn nominations and even wins at our flagship Proud of Barnsley Awards which will also be returning later this year.

“As always, these kinds of events would not be possible without the generous support of businesses and organisations that sponsor them so we’re very grateful for their support.”
