THE Cooper Gallery’s latest exhibition is set to be launched later this month.
Studio Prints: Creative Collaboration will run from April 25 to October 31.
This special exhibition, gifted to the Cooper Gallery through Arts Council England’s Cultural Gifts Scheme, features artistic prints from Dorothea Wight and Marc Balakjian.
They were the printers behind Studio Prints, one of London’s most influential printing studios.
Renowned artists such as Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach and Celia Paul all spent time in their creative workshop, and their work is included in this exciting new exhibition.
The Cooper Gallery is only one of a select few in the country that have been lucky enough to be gifted these prints and we’re so proud to showcase these amazing artworks.
A selection of over 30 prints will be on display at the free exhibition.
Matt O’Neill, executive director of growth and sustainability, said: “The new Studio Prints exhibition at the Cooper Gallery is a wonderful opportunity for everyone, regardless of their experiences, to enjoy a fascinating insight into the process of printmaking.
“With well-known artists such as Freud and Auerbach featuring, this is yet another example of the thriving cultural offer from Barnsley Museums.”
A Cooper Gallery spokesperson added: “At the heart of the exhibition are Dorothea Wight and Marc Balakjian, the printers behind Studio Prints, one of London’s most influential printing studios.
“From the late 1960s, their workshop became a creative home for some of Britain’s most acclaimed print artists.
“Throughout the printmaking process, Wight and Balakjian collaborated closely with the artists to produce highly detailed and technical works.
“This exhibition offers a glimpse into the artistry and craft behind printmaking.
“Visitors can explore plates, drawings, trial proofs and multiple versions of the same design, revealing the processes that shape a final print.”
