A WOMBWELL charity shop opened in honour of a much-loved man who took his own life in 2020 is on the move.
Mathew James Fullerton died aged just 38 in October 2020 after a lengthy struggle with his mental health.
His mum, Sue Nortcliff, described Mathew as a funny, clever man who had many friends, shown with hundreds of people lining the streets of Middlecliffe at his funeral.
Following Mathew’s death, Sue subsequently set up MAT Charity to give residents a safe place to speak with others - and she’s put her whole life into helping others.
Her charity shop, on Station Road in Wombwell, helps people struggling with their mental health and she says it can really be a lifeline for people.
But after outgrowing that site, she’s set to open her new shop on High Street - at the old Daisy and Gordi’s site - on Monday.
She told the Chronicle it’s a big step in the future of the charity.
“It’s really exciting,” she said.
“We’ve outgrown where we are now.
“Because there’s bigger rooms we’re going to be able to offer one-to-one counselling all day rather than just specific times.
“It’s going to be a lot better and it’s a big step for the charity.
“We’re going to do the grand opening at 10am on Monday.
“There’s going to be some local celebrities turn up so we’d encourage people to come along.”
