BARNSLEY AC had eight athletes at the first outdoor meeting of the season at the Spenborough AC Spring Open.

Under 18 Amelie Spicer took gold in both 100m (13.0) and 200m (26.2).

Under 14 Finlay Starkey ran PBs in 100m (13.6) and 200m (27.6) for gold and silver respectively. Under 14 Shelby Robinson took double silver with PBs over 75m (11.4) and 150m (22.6).

Under 16 Riley Hall won silver in the 200m with a PB of 23.3 and also ran a PB over 100m with 11.8.

There were PBs for under 16 Thomas Clark in 100m (12.4) and 200m (25.0) and under 14 Mila Woodcock in 75m (12.0) and 150m (24.2).

Under 12 Zak Salter set a new PB in 75m (12.7) and ran 24.32 for 150m.

Under 16 Joanna Adediran finished the 100m in 14.3 and 200m in 30.4.

Penistone’s Simon Lovidge took part in the World Coal Carrying Championships in Gawthorpe.

He finished third in his veteran’s race heat and sixth overall in the veteran’s category, completing the gruelling 1km course carrying 50kg of coal in 5-27.

Penistone’s Phil Hinchliffe celebrated his birthday in style at the Baildon Boundary Way Half Marathon.

He took victory in the men’s over55 category in his first race in the age group with 1-48-28 on the challenging multi-terrain course. He led home fellow Penistone runners Heather Graham (2-36-33) and Mark Graham (2-36-34).

Penistone’s Amelia Cottam took on the Boston Marathon UK, recording a personal best of 4-27-33 with strong winds leading to a high number of non-finishers.

Barnsley AC’s Chris McNicholas ran his second marathon at Boston.

Despite the windy conditions, he broke his own Barnsley AC over60 men’s club record by more than three minutes with a PB of 3-14-36. He was 207th overall and second over60 man.

Barnsley AC’s Gavin Walker ran a season’s best of 36-19 at a windy Lincoln 10k.

At April’s York 5k race, Barnsley AC’s Taylor Hughes knocked 31 seconds off his PB, finishing in a time of 17-03.

Penistone’s Shaun Swallow tackled the hilly Steel City Trail 10k in Sheffield, finishing in 55-19.

Penistone’s Jonathan Hallam took on the Don Morrison Edale Skyline Fell Race, a 34km Peak District classic with over 1,300 metres of ascent.

He completed the course in 4-07-02 to finish 102nd.

Barnsley Harrier Lisa Clarkson was the first woman and sixth overall at the Hawkshead Lakeland Trail Challenge 16k in 90-02. The route takes in the infamous mile-long near vertical climb called the ‘coffin trail’.
