PENISTONE and Stocksbridge MP Marie Tidball says her invite to Nigel Farage’s keynote speech must have been ‘forgotten’.

Farage said his speech at Dodworth Central Social Club on Wednesday evening was his most important yet.

The venue is in Ms Tidball’s constituency and by long-standing parliamentary convention and etiquette, MPs are expected to inform a colleague if they intend to visit their constituency, unless the visit is for private or personal reasons.

This rule is designed to maintain courtesy between members and protect the principle that each MP is responsible for their own specific area.

Ms Tidball said: “Farage must have forgotten my invite to his speech at Dodworth Central Social Club in my constituency.

“I was there just last month holding my Pride in Dodworth community meeting, working with my fantastic constituents to set your priorities for our local area.

“Dodworth is special to me, it’s where we lived when I was first born and my dad was a councillor here when I was growing up.

“Hopefully Reform-led councils won’t have closed any more care homes before he comes back to visit.”
