Barnsley won their final away game of the season 1-0 at relegated bottom club Northampton Town.
Reyes Cleary opened the scoring late in the first half then the Reds kept their fourth league clean sheet of the season and subjected their hosts to an 11th straight loss.
Kieren Flavell replaced Owen Goodman in goal while David McGoldrick came in for the benched Adam Phillips.
Tom Bradshaw headed a decent early chance wide from a Luca Connell corner then Cleary’s shot from the edge of the box was straight at the goalkeeper.
Cleary opened the scoring on 37 minutes. After Bradshaw brilliantly brought down a powerful Connell pass, Patrick Kelly found the winger who cut in from the left and found the bottom right corner.
Home player Kyle McAdam shot wide of the top left corner from the left of the box after meeting a Jake Evans pass on the stroke of half-time.
Phillips replaced Bradshaw at half-time. Northampton began the second half on top but Dean Campbell, Evans and Sam Hoskins shot off target from distance.
McGoldrick nudged a Corey O’Keeffe free-kick towards goal but it was easily gathered by the goalkeeper.
Phillips should have made it 2-0 but somehow shot over a few yards out after meeting a low cross by fellow substitute Scott Banks following a fine McGoldrick back heel.
Ex-Red Conor McCarthy’s header was clawed out by Flavell but may have been hitting the left post anyway. Elliot List headed Tyrese Fornah’s cross well wide.
