A prisoner who was on day release in Barnsley absconded after being visited by officers.
Wayne Hood, 36, was working at Wilkinson Street on Friday.
He absconded at about 1pm after seeing prison staff who were visiting him.
Hood is serving an indeterminate sentence at HMP Hatfield open prison in Doncaster and is regularly allowed to leave the prison to complete work placements.
Hood is described as white, about five feet, seven inches, tall, of a slim build, with spiky brown hair.
He was last seen wearing a black tracksuit with red colouring around the shoulders which is likely to be splattered with paint.
He speaks with a North East accent.
If seen, Hood should not be approached.
