A ‘FOOTBALL-OBSESSED’ schoolboy who has been nominated for a Young Champions award has Premier League dreams.

Mason Shaw, 13, like most teenage boys is crazy about football, but he has taken his passion a step further than most.

The Oxspring teenager, who attends Penistone Grammar School, recently celebrated becoming the goalkeeper for Hull City’s under-13s.

Having undergone a nail-biting eight-week trial at the start of the year, Mason learned he had been successful last month.

Even though Mason first started playing football aged seven, he remembers it like it was yesterday.

Walking his dog around a local field, Mason noticed a football coach who was training goalkeepers.

Almost wishing his future achievement into reality, Mason told his dad: “I want to be a goalkeeper one day.”

From then on Mason started off goalkeeping at Penistone Church, his local club.

After five weeks Mason got scouted for Sheffield Wednesday and played there for two years - before devastatingly getting released and being unsuccessful at his trial in Rotherham.

After that, Mason bounced back and went on to play for Sheffield Rangers and Chesterfield.

Whilst playing for Chesterfield, Mason was delighted to get scouted by Hull City, leading him to where he is today.

“We both support Sheffield Wednesday and we’ve become closer because of it.

“In the future I want to be a professional footballer after I’ve finished school - I’m football obsessed so all of my time is taken up by it, but I do sometimes play cricket with my friends.

“My dream team to play for is Brentford, which all of my family also support.”
