THE number of votes in multiple usual 'safe' seats for Labour across Barnsley are currently 'very close' with Reform, the Chronicle understands.

The Labour Party has been in control of the metropolitan borough council since its inception in 1974 – over 50 years of control in the town.

However, the Chronicle understands that the Reform vote has surged dramatically - with huge turnouts expected across the 21 wards.

Although there is still a long way to go, a Labour insider told the Chronicle that there are multiple wards that are 'very, very close' -perhaps closer than expected.

Reform were polling well, but with a huge turnout expected it seems that the tide of the previous red-wall town could soon be turning.
