BARNSLEY’S best pub has been announced - and it’s the first time the annual winner has gone to a Goldthorpe boozer.
The town’s branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) announced that The Corner Tap was its pub of the year for 2026.
It marks a historic milestone as it’s the first time a pub in Goldthorpe has ever received the award and it will now go on to represent Barnsley in the Yorkshire-wide awards.
A CAMRA spokesperson said: “The Corner Tap has firmly established itself as a fantastic community asset, bringing people together and fostering a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
“It offers an excellent and ever-changing selection of cask ales, all kept to an exceptionally high standard, which has consistently impressed CAMRA members throughout the judging process.
“Members were particularly struck by the pub’s warm welcome, vibrant atmosphere and superb beer quality - all key factors that set it apart in a competitive field featuring pubs from across the borough.
“This success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of licensees Dave and Fran Jarvis.
“Their perseverance and commitment, especially during challenging times for the hospitality industry, have transformed The Corner Tap into a true community gem.”
