Up to 4,000 people packed out Cheapside to see this year's Christmas lights be switched on by former Face of Barnsley winner Abii Herbert and children's tv character Mike the Knight.
Groups of girls and boys, parents and children and couples enjoyed the show, which also featured a performance by Jay Mya.
Jay sang his charity single Chasing Rainbows which he recorded to raise money for little Ebonie Webb, of Honeywell Place Honeywell, who is battling a brain tumour.
Ebonie, five, said she had enjoyed seeing the lights and being on stage with Jay.
Abii sang Taylor Swift's 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.'
The mayor Coun Dorothy Higginbottom said she had enjoyed seeing people of all ages being with their families and enjoying the entertainment and fireworks.
