PUPILS at one primary all walked to school together on Wednesday as part of a scheme to encourage eco-friendly travel.

Youngsters at Joseph Locke Primary School met one another at Locke Park on Wednesday to take part in the walking bus project.

The school is a part of the WOW travel tracker system, by Living Streets, where children are able to track their daily travel to school - earning monthly badges when they travel in an eco-friendly way.

Strider, the WOW mascot, was in attendance on the day alongside representatives from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.

Teacher Samantha Wood said: “A walking bus a lovely opportunity for you to enjoy conversation with your child along the way, discussing what you can see and hear, talk about staying safe when out and about and connecting with other families.

“Strider, the WOW mascot joined the walking bus and the company also brought along an active travel officer from the transport section at SYMCA and a project officer in the transport sector at Barnsley Council.

“I believe they have some involvement with the active travel path that is being installed coming down from Broadway and leading behind our school.

“Once this is complete, we plan to arrange another walking bus to take this path.”
