BETHANY England played her final game for Tottenham Hotspur this week after being released.

The striker, from Kingstone in Barnsley, moved to Spurs in January 2023 for a reported British record fee from Chelsea with whom she had won multiple league titles and cups.

She helped them to the 2024 FA Cup final and scored 32 league goals, taking her to 89 in the WSL which is the second highest in the league’s history.

Bethany – who has 26 England caps including a World Cup final – was Tottenham’s second top-scorer this season with seven.

She will turn 32 on June 3 but is expected to be of interest to multiple clubs.

Spurs won 2-1 at Brighton on Saturday, with Bethany coming on after 78 minutes. They finished fifth.

In a tearful video message to Spurs fans, she said ‘you even made me feel seen again’ and that the club was ‘a place that was helping put me back together’ after injury and health problems. Women’s team’s managing director, Andy Rogers, said: “Bethany’s leadership has shaped a defining era in the history of Tottenham Hotspur Women. Upon arrival, she drove a rise in standards, professionalism and desire and she has continued to uphold and push these values throughout her time here.

“As well as her incredible contributions on the pitch, Bethany has been instrumental in connecting with our fans to bring them closer to the team, and committing herself to our foundation to ensure we are making a positive impact on the community.
