THE strength of Barnsley’s ongoing regeneration has been recognised with the borough receiving ten nominations in the 2026 South Yorkshire Property Awards.

The awards, which will take place in July, acknowledge the best completed projects, deals and industry individuals in the region.

Among the projects shortlisted are the Base71 and The Seam Digital Campus, which are both up for the sustainability and social impact award.

There are four nominations in the outstanding development of the year category with the Base71, Gateway 36, Health on the High Street and Barnsley College’s University Centre all in the running.

The centre is also in the frame for heritage project of the year, while the letting of a 266,044sq ft unit to Evri at Arrow Point is shortlisted in the property deal of the year category.

Matt O’Neill, executive director place at the council, has been nominated for the property personality of the year, and plans for phase two of The Seam Digital Campus have been put forward for the future ambition award.

Matt said: “It’s fantastic news to see so many projects across Barnsley shortlisted for the South Yorkshire Property Awards.

“We have an incredible set of partners delivering amazing schemes across the borough and it is brilliant to see them recognised.

“We’re not short of ambition here and we get things done, which is evident in what the borough delivers across a range of sectors.

“We’re leading the way in healthcare with Health on the High Street with the support of our colleagues in the NHS and have contributed to the construction of Yorkshire’s first youth zone with Onside at Base71 as part of our Great Childhoods Ambition.

“Barnsley College’s University Centre has created a modern, world-class learning environment to provide education and training for the careers of the future as part of the South Yorkshire Institute of Technology while retaining the unique characteristics of a 93-year-old art deco building.

“From a personal perspective, I am incredibly humbled to be shortlisted I am lucky to work with so many amazing colleagues in the public and private sector and am honoured to have responsibility for the development schemes the council have led.

“As a borough we are really moving forward at pace with a variety of high-class schemes, and all of the nominations received are a testament to our place-based relationships and colleagues’ hard work.”
