LOCAL karate instructor John Tumman is supporting a fundraising campaign which aims to bring a second piece of lifesaving equipment to Shaw Lane Sports Club.

The facility is home to a number of different clubs and, after the defibrillator was recently used to assist someone in distress, a campaign has now been launched to purchase a second one.

John, who runs Barnsley Karate Centre at the site, has backed the campaign for another unit.

He told the Chronicle: “Shaw Lane Sports Club continues to grow and expand, with new sports and activities regularly being added to the wide range of facilities already available for the local community to enjoy.

“The karate club has proudly been based at Shaw Lane for the past six years and has grown into a very successful and well-supported club within the community.

“We all hope that a defibrillator never has to be used, but having this life-saving equipment available - and hopefully soon a second unit on site - provides reassurance and peace of mind for athletes, parents, spectators, staff, and all visitors to Shaw Lane.

“The total cost for the new defibrillator and associated staff training is expected to be around £2,000.

“Any support, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated.

“If our karate club can help the site reach its target, I will be incredibly proud of everyone who has contributed towards such an important cause.”
