YOUNG runners from Barnsley are set to compete in regional and international events this week.
Graihagh Turner, 17, from Penistone, is part of the Great Britain squad for the European Under 20 Championships.
The event takes place from Friday to Sunday in Ljubljana-Kamnik, Slovenia.
Graihagh has previously represented Great Britain’s youth teams in various events including mountain running.
Meanwhile, the North of England Track and Field Championships are due to take place in Hull on Saturday and Sunday.
Barnsley AC sprinters Vanessa Ndambakuwa and Amelie Spicer are set to compete in the under 18s girls category plus Riley Hall in the under 16 boys.
They all won medals at the Yorkshire Championships last month in Cudworth.
Vanessa is being coached by Great Britain sprinter Joe Ferguson who believes she could reach the top level.
Meanwhile, Hannah Shaw led the way for Penistone Footpath Runners with victory at the Colne Valley 10k Challenge, finishing as first woman in 48-06 and 12th overall on the tough trail course.
James Mumford was fourth overall and second in the men’s over45 category in 43-12, while Robin Clough finished fifth in the men’s over55 category in 55-58.
Dawn Godley was next among the club’s age-category prize winners, taking second in the women’s over65 category in 59-30, before Bill Phillips claimed first over75 in 1-05-02.
Keith Gordon followed as second over75 in 1-05-51, with Mandy Mallinder first women’s over55 in 1-06-06, Barbara Haigh first women’s over75 in 1-12-25 and Ray Brown third over75 in 1-18-53.
At the Great Manchester Run 10k, Penistone’s Jade Crosby came 499th overall in 40-19.
Alex Crosby finished 581st in 41-11 and recorded a 30-second personal best.
Barnsley Harrier Mark Davis ran the distance for the first time in five years while raising money for Dementia UK. He came 10,445th in 2-17-05.
Penistone were well-represented at the Bamford Sheepdog Trials Fell Race, where Daniel Rushforth led the club home in 26th place in 42-08.
Josie Smith was fifth woman and second in the women’s over40 category in 43-47, while Matthew Robinson was close behind in 40th place with 43-54.
Ian Neville was third in the men’s over60 category in 44-33.
Hannah Shaw was ninth female overall in a time of 48-49, with Ashley Howlett, Andrew Shiel, Rory O’Sullivan, Oliver Found, Rebecca Timms, Shaun Braddock, Michael Walsh, Steve Dickinson and Mandy Mallinder also completing the race.
Penistone’s Lesley Parker was second in the women’s over50 category in 52-21, while Barbara Haigh claimed first place in the women’s over70 category.
Barnsley Harrier Paul Wheatley finished 154th in 84-43.
Penistone’s Steve Sanders and Liz Hutchinson also took part in the Peak Raid orienteering event, a two-hour score course held in aid of Buxton Mountain Rescue.
Sanders finished 24th with 522 points, while Hutchinson was 83rd with 188 points.
Barnsley Harriers Georgi and Simon Newton were at the inaugural Bentley five-mile race hosted by Askern DRC.
Simon finished in 24th place with 32-50 and Georgi 176th in 55-07.
There were two Harriers at the Cork City 10k.
Jo Taylor was 874th in 54-28 and Jayne Galloway 1,672nd with 61-47.
Five Harriers took on the 5.5-mile Gerald Memorial Fun Run in Clumber Park. Dean Goodwin was first back for the Harriers in 25th place, with Robyn Canty competing in her first race for the club.
David Hanks and Anna Gaughan were the two Harriers at the first KMR race of the year, the 3.5-mile Scholes Coppice.
David finished in third place and was first over45 man, with 23-15.
