A LORRY was stranded for at least two hours when it got stuck under a Royston bridge.

The driver was travelling in the direction of Monckton Coke and Chemical plant at around 3.30pm on Friday but the cab struck the bridge at Lund Hill Lane.

The top of the cab was ripped off. Police were called to deal with the traffic congestion as the road was blocked.

The lorry from Cornwall, was released by deflating the tyres and rolling it back down the hill.

Darryl White from Network Rail said: “He shouldn’t have gone up there but when drivers are not from Barnsley they don’t always know the height restrictions.

“It was there a good couple of hours. The bridge is disused but there was no damage anyway.”
