ISAAC Wainwright, of Wath CC, scored 136 as captain of Yorkshire under 14s in a win at Lincolnshire on Sunday and has been backed to go to the top of the game.
The 14-year-old also plays for the first team of Wath who play in Division One of the South Yorkshire League.
Isaac, who started at Monk Bretton CC but now lives in Wath, has scored more than 1,000 runs for the two teams this season, averaging more than 50. He made 83 against Nottinghamshire in midweek.
Wath captain Rob Barlow said: “Isaac has improved so much in the last 18 months as he’s grown into his body.
“Mentally he’s very tough and he’s playing against difficult competitors in Division One each week as a 14 year old.
“He’s got huge self-confidence without being arrogant and his greatest asset is probably his athleticism in the field. I’ve the peace of mind to ask him to do anything for the team without me thinking: do I have to look after him or hide him away if things get tough?
“He’s always searching for perfection.
“We played Whitley Hall around a month ago and he scored 58 as we chased down 229 – but he was so angry with himself for getting out when we needed 11 to win.
“He’s got a real chance of reaching the top if he continues on the path he’s taking.
“Both his Dad and his brother Oliver who plays for Aston Hall are very level headed and supportive of Isaac.”
