ELSECAR Cricket Club is inviting local residents to come together and celebrate community, culture and cricket at a special Caribbean event on Sunday.
The day will feature a T20 match starting at 3pm, with food available from 2pm, a steel drum band and activities for all ages.
The event forms part of the club’s cultural events programme and has been made possible thanks to funding from Barnsley Council’s Unity and Inclusion Fund, which supports projects that bring people together and celebrate diversity across the borough.
As well as showcasing the fast-paced excitement of T20 cricket, the day aims to highlight the strong sense of community at the heart of the sport.
Jason Meadows, chairman of Elsecar Cricket Club, said: “Cricket has always been about more than just what happens on the pitch, it’s about bringing people together.
“This event is a great example of that, celebrating different cultures while welcoming everyone from the local community to be part of it.
“We’re really grateful for the support from Barnsley Council’s Unity and Inclusion Fund, which has helped us create something that’s inclusive, welcoming and open to everyone.
“Whether you’re a regular at the club or visiting for the first time, we want people to come along, enjoy the atmosphere and feel part of something.”
