A BARNSLEY taxi was suspended from being used during recent enforcement action in the town centre.

On April 17, licensing enforcement officers took part in a proactive mobile day-time operation in conjunction with South Yorkshire Police.

During the operation, 23 drivers were stopped and inspected as well as one driver licensed by Wakefield and another from Wolverhampton.

One Barnsley-licensed vehicle was suspended for failing to display the required signage, two if its tyres were below the legal limit and there was accident damage to the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle also received a written warning for failing to complete his daily check book.

A report states: “Vehicle and driver non-compliance is an issue officers are concerned with during the undertaking of every enforcement operation.

“Regardless of which authority issued the licences, illegal actions are not acceptable and cannot be excused and officers will continue to proactively enforce both the legislation and our local conditions accordingly.”
