A FEARLESS fundraiser took to the skies yet again this week to embark on the second part of a trio of fundraisers in aid of two places close to her heart and she’s not got long to wait until the finale.

Rachael Addy, the activities co-ordinator at Mapplewell care home Deangate, is well known for her fundraising exploits.

She’s raised thousands to support the work going off at Deangate and this year is no different.

But instead of completing just one fundraiser, it’ll be three.

She abseiled down the side of Liverpool’s football stadium, Anfield, last month and in the last week she ended up taking part in a bungee jump in Whitby an experience she’ll never forget.

Rachael told the Chronicle: “The experience was out of this world.

“I can’t even begin to mention how scary it was it was scarier than the skydiving.

“I was petrified.

“I don’t know why I’m not sure if it was because I wasn’t in control of the situation.

“It obviously doesn’t help that you’ve got both your ankles strapped together and you’re jumping off a 180-foot bridge.

“It feels higher than what it actually is when you’re up then you can go over the edge by free will or someone can push you.

“I thought ‘I’m not having that’ and jumped myself.

“I think I screamed all the way down.”

Rachael is hoping to raise as much money as possible for the care home and for BIADS a charity incredibly close to her heart after her mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

And despite being absolutely terrified, Rachael said she’d do anything to help raise money for charity.

“It was probably up there with one of the scariest things I’ve ever done,” she added.

“But as I’ve always said, if I can do something scary to raise money for our residents who might live in fear daily, then that’s fine by me.

“We’re well on our way now.

“We’re nearly at £3,000 so if we can smash that it would be fantastic.”

But Rachael has no time to rest her final fundraiser of the three a climb up the O2 building in London is taking place tomorrow.

“There’s still one more left to go,” she said.

“That’s on Saturday at the O2 Arena where we’re going to walk from the bottom, up over the top and then down the other side.

“That’ll be it for this year but brace yourselves because I’ll hopefully be announcing what I’m doing next very soon.”

There was an extra special moment for Rachael after the fundraiser as her mum rang her to congratulate her.

She added: “There’s certain things she can remember and certain things she can’t.

“But apparently she’d been up all night whittling about it because she couldn’t remember that I was jumping off something.

“She said that she doesn’t know where I get the strength and courage from and that she was proud of me.

“She said that I must not value my life that much but I do I value other people’s as well and that’s why I do what I do.”
