Barnsley have signed Australian winger Clayton Taylor.

The 22-year-old joins on a three-year contract, with a club option for a further year, from Newcastle Jets.

He was a free agent but a fee is thought to have been agreed between the clubs due to rules around signing young players.

The under 23 Aussie international scored nine goals for the Jets last season as they won the title.

Taylor told the club website: "Barnsley's philosophy really appealed to me. The club has a young, ambitious squad, and I felt this was the right time in my career to take the next step, challenge myself in a new environment and test myself at a higher level.

“Barnsley was the right choice for me, and I'm excited to get started."

Head coach Daniel Stendel added: "We're very pleased to welcome Clayton to Barnsley. He is a young, exciting player with real quality in the final third, and we believe he has all the attributes to develop even further with us.

"He is quick, creative and works hard for the team, which are qualities we value highly. Clayton has shown his ability to score goals and create chances in Australia, and we're looking forward to helping him take the next step in his career.
