BARNSLEY are due to visit League Two York City on Saturday for a 3pm friendly.
The Reds began their pre-season with a 2-0 win at eighth-tier Matlock Town on Saturday.
They are expected to play a stronger line-up at York, who have just been promoted to League Two after a decade in non-league football which saw them slip to the sixth tier amid financial turmoil.
But the Minstermen won the National League title with a last-gasp equaliser against Rochdale, who finished second.
City and the Reds met last summer in pre-season, drawing 2-2 in York with goals by Caylan Vickers and Adam Phillips who have since left.
They also played in the first round of the FA Cup at Oakwell when Marc Roberts netted a last-gasp winner in a 3-2 success following a brace by Davis Keillor-Dunn.
Daniel Stendel visited the previous York’s stadium, Bootham Crescent, for a 7-1 win in the pre-season of 2018.
York have Ollie Banks – son of Reds legend Ian – as well as highly-rated striker Josh Stones who scored at Oakwell last season.
After the York game, Barnsley’s next friendly in front of fans is at Scarborough Athletic on July 25 then they host Lincoln City on August 1.
