A SPECIAL concert is set to raise vital funds and hope for a brave teenager suffering from an ultra-rare illness.

When Daisy Ashton, 14, was diagnosed with CMT4J (Charcot Marie Tooth Type 4J) last December, her life was turned upside down.

The illness is an aggressive neurological disease which affects less than one in a million people.

It damages the nerves, causing progressive muscle weakness and will eventually leave Daisy unable to walk.

The condition can also weaken the respiratory muscles, leading to breathing difficulties.

For her unwavering resilience Daisy won a Young Champions award in the Triumph over Adversity category - and now Daisy’s family is campaigning to secure vital funding to ‘reach the cure’ for her condition.

The youngster has been considered for a the National History Study in Iowa, with the possibility for her to take part in a clinical trial.

To cover essential costs for Daisy’s trip to America her mum, Adele Fisher, has set out to put on a special brass band concert in her name.

Having played in brass bands with her dad since age seven, some of the musicians that have played alongside Adele have come together to make the concert happen.

Adele and the band’s efforts will culminate on August 22, at 2pm, at the Holy Trinity Church in Elsecar.

Adele said: “While the big costs are covered, the journey to get Daisy to America and keep our family stable during this time is still a mountain to climb.

“As Daisy’s needs have increased, I have stepped into a full-time carer role and am no longer able to work.

“We are so close to the finish line.

“If you could donate even a small amount to help us bridge this final gap, it would mean the world to our family.”
