Keith Hill has been sacked as Barnsley manager following a 3-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers.
The Reds have won just one of their last 14 games and are without a home win in four months. They are bottom of the Championship and favourites for relegation.
Hill's assistant David Flitcroft has been offered the caretaker's job but has yet to decide whether or not to accept it.
General Manager Don Rowing told the Chronicle: "It's never nice to see anyone lose their job but this is a results driven business and we felt it was time for a change. Keith is obviously very disappointed but considering our recent run we felt we had no other choice. This was a decision made by the board of Barnsley Football Club."
