CARS come and go, but the Toyota Corolla has regularly regenerated to meet the demands of time and has outlasted most rivals, writes Don Booker.

This year the world’s biggest-selling car is celebrating its 40th birthday, being introduced in Japan in 1966.

Today it is built in 16 countries and last year 1.36 million were built.

From day one 31.60 million Corollas have been made, representing more than 2,160 cars a day, 90.1 cars per hour, every hour for 40 years.

Happy birthday Corolla!
